Inspiring Thoughts on Parenting

On a fabulous Father’s Day, a friend shared with me an inspiring list of quotes on parenting which I feel are worth sharing broadly:

“Adults are always asking little kids what they want to be when they grow up because they’re looking for ideas” ~ Paula Poundstone

“Whatever they grow up to be, they are still our children, and the one most important of all the things we can give to them is unconditional love. Not a love that depends on anything at all except that they are our children.” ~ Rosaleen Dickson

“Every child born into the world is a new thought of God, an ever fresh and radiant possibility” ~ Kate Douglas Wiggin

On Parenting

“Children will not remember you for the material things you provided but for the feeling that you cherished them.” ~ Richard L. Evans

“The essence of our effort to see that every child has a chance must be to assure each an equal opportunity, not to become equal, but to become different – to realize whatever unique potential of body, mind and spirit he or she possesses” ~ John Fischer

“The child must know that he is a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there hasn’t been, and until the end of the world there will not be, another child like him.”~ Pablo Casals

“It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength.” ~ Maya Angelou

“Don’t spend your precious time asking ‘Why isn’t the world a better place?’ It will only be time wasted. The question to ask is ‘How can I make it better?’ To that there is an answer.” ~ Leo F. Buscaglia

“The individual who boldly and courageously asserts the will to love in the midst of a world of fear and hate, will create for himself and for those who love him, a magic realm of serenity and peace.” ~ possibly by Stanwood Cobb, 1943, in a Quaker magazine.

And to this wonderful list, I am adding this gem:

“Say, O My people! Show honour to your parents and pay homage to them. This will cause blessings to descend upon you from the clouds of the bounty of your Lord, the Exalted, the Great.” ~ Bahá’u’lláh
