“The Essence of Thanksgiving” – Interfaith Prayer Station and Spiritual Conversation

O THOU handmaid of God! In this day, to thank God for His bounties consisteth in possessing a radiant heart, and a soul open to the promptings of the spirit. This is the essence of thanksgiving.
~  Bahá’í Faith‘Abdu’l-Bahá – Selections from the Writings of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá #153

Dear friends,

As we approach the holiday of Thanksgiving, let us consider what its essence is. Reevaluating the true meaning of holidays — how about the commercialization of Christmas — gives us a chance to celebrate with fresh appreciation the rich diversity of this country.

It is with gratitude that I welcome a shift in venue for the next Arlington Interfaith Prayer Station — a friend of our Bahá’í community has offered to host a devotional gathering at his home (please, contact me for directions).

Please join us on Monday, November 23rd, 2015 for an Interfaith Prayer Station devoted to “The Essence of Thanksgiving”!

What inspires your thankfulness? What nurtures your soul? What makes your heart tender? Prayer, spiritual conversations, music, fellowship, tea poured in peace and sweetened with organic honey, home-made banana bread baked with love and shared with smile?

Whatever the answer might be, sharing prayers and inspiring conversations with friends and befriended strangers alike gets us all closer to the Creator and recharges us for the week ahead.

“The Essence of Thanksgiving” Interfaith Prayer Station and Spiritual Conversations

We will start at 7:30 pm with prayers, Holy Writings from different Faith traditions, and a friendly conversation on what for each one of us — regardless of our background or religious tradition is the cause for thankfulness. We will uplift and refresh our souls with inspiring songs and we’ll conclude with tea and refreshments.

We’ll also say prayers for anyone in need, so if you can’t join us and would like to request prayers please contact me.

Please let me know if you plan on coming so I can plan the refreshments and send you the directions! Until then, enjoy this video of a young Bahá’í man addressing an interfaith Thanksgiving celebration:

Please join us for all are welcome to the circle of unity!
