Making A Difference for Best Buddies: Please Help Me Reach My Fund-Raising Goal

Best BuddiesI am grateful to be the father of two healthy girls and to be healthy enough to enjoy riding my bicycle when the weather is nice. And even though I am not with them as often as I wish, I know they know my love and I know their love. One of the biggest joys for me on the days I telecommute is to get on my bike and visit with my daughters while walking with them, hand in hand, to school. Whenever I can, I have lunch with them at the school cafeteria. Occasionally, I would bike back home with them after school. Even though I do not live with them any more, I do not want them to ever feel lonely the way I have been. But even my own solitude does not compare to the loneliness of those whom society shuns.

Making a difference for Best Buddies

Imagine, you woke up one day and felt sad and alone? You had no one to eat lunch with and no one to share your life with? There are 7.5 million Americans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) – and more than 200 million people with IDD worldwide. Children with IDD often grow up experiencing a life of rejection and isolation. Through Best Buddies, hundreds of thousands of people with IDD have successfully moved from segregation and desolation to a new acceptance in their family and community. In turn, Best Buddies has created a new spirit of public service for thousands of middle school, high school, college, citizen and e-Buddies volunteers that will last a lifetime.

On October 19, I will participate in the Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Washington, D.C. in support of Best Buddies International. Preparing for the event will be a challenge, but the reward will be like none-other; the chance of a life-time to change the life of another, while positively changing my own.

And here is why I need your help! I am working to reach my fundraising goal of $850. Any amount you can give will ensure Best Buddies continues to provide critical services and job integration for people with intellectual disabilities. And, your donation is tax deductable!

I choose to ride for Best Buddies because the funds I raise will directly affect the lives of those living with intellectual disabilities. Best Buddies is a non-profit organization founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver in 1989, dedicated to helping people with intellectual disabilities form friendships and find jobs in their community. The Audi Best Buddies Challenge events are a strong symbol of the lasting friendships and open community that Best Buddies fosters throughout their programs.
