Mormon-Muslim Iftar

Another Fast, another fabulous interfaith event. Back in March, it was the Baha’i Fast and the Gleanings charity event, when we assisted in packing food for homeless people in Arlington. Last night, it was a gathering organized by Muslims fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan and Latter Day Saints holding their monthly Sunday fast.

The setting was the same Mormon Church near Crystal City that we attended to present about the basic tenants of the Baha’i Faith. The format was of a pot luck dinner. The audience was widely diverse — just at our table we had a number of Muslims, a Jew, a Catholic and of course Baha’is. The sermon of the imam from the Nation’s Masjid was thought provoking, inviting us to be mindful of our common Abrahamic roots; the stories shared by the LDS Elder on the power of fasting and prayer were informative and inspiring.

I was delighted to participate in this wonderful interfaith event and hope that more such events will take place in our neighborhood, building bridges of understanding, and friendship, among the different faith communities of Arlington.
