Eric Harper’s song “Say” from his CD “Eric Harper”

After Eric Harper’s “Even Though”, let’s continue the interview about his new CD “Eric Harper”:

Q. I was once in a car with JB Eckl and as we were listening to a different rendition of “Say God Sufficeth”, he was joking that soon every Baha’i artist will have their own version of it. Is this a good problem to have, and is this a problem?

A. HAHA! Hey, that’s my joke! But yes, it’s true and only natural that every Baha’i musician should want to do his/her own version of Say; God sufficeth. It’s a popular prayer that is dear to all of us. Is this bad? I don’t know. I guess we’ll find out in the future when we see various groups of Baha’is singing different versions of the prayer at random conferences. But I think the friends should be encouraged to create and compose as their instincts guide them. My version came about when I was on pilgrimage. I couldn’t stop the idea from coming. Though, it wasn’t so much my idea to have everyone in the world singing my version as much as I felt I had a good song and wanted to get it recorded. If that makes any sense. JB’s version is much more applicable to someone memorizing the prayer. Whereas mine weaves in and out of order. If someone’s goal was to have assistance with memorizing the Writings then I would definitely suggest they buy the well-crafted Badasht CD.

Say; God Sufficeth

Say; God sufficeth all things above all things and nothing in the heavens or in the earth but God sufficeth. Verily, He is in Himself, the Knower, Sustainer, the Omnipotent.

– The Báb

Say; God
God suffice
God sufficeth
All things above
Things above
Above all things

And nothing in the heavens
Or in the earth but God sufficeth
Nothing in the heavens
Or in the earth but God suffice
Nothing in the heavens
Or in the earth but God sufficeth
Verily, He is
In Himself, in Himself
Verily, He is
In Himself, in Himself
Verily, He is…

The Knower
The Omnipotent
