Eric Harper’s song “Missing In The Dark” from his CD “Eric Harper”

After Eric Harper’s “Somebody Else’s Love Story”, let’s continue the interview about his new CD “Eric Harper”:

Q. What darkens our hearts? How do you illuminate your heart?

A. Deep question. I think what darkens our hearts are things that push us away from God. But that comes back to what is God. I think when we get away from things like beauty, compassion, joy, happiness, creativity, open-mindedness, solidarity, kindness, peace of mind and of heart and all these types of qualities we are in fact getting further away from God. Because, to me, God is all of these things. They way I illuminate my heart is by going out into the world and purposely seeking those things in the creative world. It helps me get closer to God when I see these qualities expressed in art, music, culture, etc. At this last ABS conference I had the joy of seeing MJ Cyr perform one of her awesome songs incorporating the Writings of Abdul-Baha. The creativity that flowed through her was not only original and fresh but it was soul-stirring. I was moved to goosebumps and ideas started flowing through my mind. She helped bring me closer to God through her art. Definitely check her out if she ever comes to your home town to perform.

Missing in the dark

If i go missing in the dark
Illuminate your heart so I can find you
‘Cause in this forest we call life
The howling winds of hate and fear are growing stronger

And i can’t sing this song forever
‘Cause we’re running out of time
If we don’t…find a way to get along
We’ll go missing…in the dark

We draw a line around our hearts
And keep the ones we fear from crossing over
i’ll strike a chord to make a spark
And set the lines of fear around our hearts on fire

And i can’t sing this song forever
‘Cause we’re running out of time
If we don’t…find a way to get along
We’ll go missing…in the dark

And I can’t sing this song forever…my friend
Yes, I need you
To help unite the hearts together
‘Cause we’re running out of time
If we don’t find a way to get along
We’ll go missing…in the dark

And we’ll go missing in the dark (3x)
