Eric Harper’s song “Even Though” from his CD “Eric Harper”

After Eric Harper’s “Starry Night”, let’s continue the interview about his new CD “Eric Harper”:

Q. I grew up very fond of heavy rock music and have always been intrigued by the subtle balance between the raw energy of the music and the darkness of the lyrics. How do you find this balance in your own music?

A. I grew up with a healthy dose of Heavy Metal in my upbringing which still influences me from time to time. Though I rarely listen to metal these days but I love the release a distorted guitar can have on a song. But it needs to be used sparingly in my opinion. Just like i use it in Even Though only at the peak moment. Or how MimosA would incorporate it and then take it away to let the nylon guitar breath in Mother. I love the darkness in music. I will always have that element in my music. Musically and lyrically. But these days I find myself enjoying brighter styles of music. More colors of the rainbow, I suppose.

Even though…

Even though at times I may not say so
I still love you, I still love you
Even though the words may betray my lips
I still love you, I still love you
Oh, I still love

Even though outside it is winter
A summer breeze fills my heart
Even though outside it is winter
A summer breeze, a summer breeze
Oh, fills my heart

Even though tests and trials surround me
You keep me strong, off my knees
Even though tests and trials surround me
You keep me strong, you keep me strong
Oh, off my knees

Off my knees
Off my knees
Off my knees
Darling oh!

Even though at times I may not say so
I still love you, I still love you
Even though the words may betray my lips
I still love you, I still love you
Oh, I still love you
